I am not proud of this, but when I moved abroad 5 years ago I did not tell the SCL, hoping they would go away forever. But yesterday I received a letter from them at my correct address. They found me.
I have two "mortgage style" (old style) loans with them from 98/99 and 99/00. I can't even remember the amount, but it was the maximum you could borrow. About £4500 I think.
The last contact I had with them was in 2003 when I got both my loans deferrred till June 2004. I have been a student the whole time and still is, so could in fact have gotten my loans deferred the whole time and not be in this mess. Hindsight is a fine thing...
So what can I expect now? I am completely stressed out, I have read here about £20 letters and I worry that they will now claim I owe them tens of thousands of pounds. I have two small children to support and I am scared witless.
I toyed with the idea of ignoring the letter, but decided I needed to end this now and sent an email saying that this was my correct address and that I had been a student the whole time.
Has anyone got any idea of what I can expect now and any advice on how to proceed. I read about CCA's and Subject Access Request's and I am wondering if that is the way forward? I would really really appreciate any information or advice.
