| | Basic Account Customer | Hello, Student Loan debt Advice please Hello everybody,
I've just joined the Forum hoping for help and advice with my Student Loans problem. I'll put back what I take, and so will hopefully be able to help people in the future. Good karma, and all that.
Anyway, I know it's old hat, but in a nutshell my problem is this:
Graduated in 1995 with a SL total of around £2600. I always deferred until 2002 when I moved to South America. I sent my forms back for 2003 deferral, but they never got there.
Haven't contacted them since. Needless to say, lots of letters, charges etc, got passed on to various agencies hassling my Mum, who has kept mum about my details. Got back in the UK a couple of weeks ago and Buchanan, Clarke and Wells (the debt collection agency) located me (on a mobile my sister lent me, having given the number to a handful of people- how did they do that?).
I now owe around £3400, and the loan has "matured" so I can't get any more deferments. Obviously, I want to get as many charges as poss subtracted, defer, or repay as little as poss.
Any advice where to start? What's the key info on this site?
Many, many thanks to anyone who can help. |

Dont bother getting into a letter writing duel with them, just send them a Subject Access Request and the statutory £10 fee for all your data.
From this you will be able to identify your charges and the dates on which they were applied.
Work out the interest on each charge and then hit them with a letter before action.
Come back when you want more advice. |
