TVU Paragon accommodation rent - unfair debt

Hi, i moved out of this accomadation in london in december 2007, well i had to leave as i was given a notice to quit, my contract with them was from september 2007 to july 2008 and they are trying to charge me for rent from december 2007 to july 2008. it is unfair as i didnt have a choice to leave as i was getting thrown out and now i have to pay for a service i wasnt even able to use, i had a debt collecting agency ring me a few days ago and told me i had to pay £2000, but i dont see why i should, she also said that they can start taking money out of my bank if they talk to their lawyers. i dunno what to do now, whether i shud pay them slowly a month but as i student its too difficult. i hate them.
