| | Basic Account Customer | Student Loan Maturity? Hello there
I've been in dispute with the Student Loans Company for several years now. It all began a form got lost in the post. So I called them to ask for another form. Their initial reply was that a new form would be sent out. Later this changed to "you don't need another form - if you have one loan deferred, all your loans are automatically deferred". Fine I thought. No problem. Next thing I know, they're sending me arrears letters. I've gone round the block with these people several times, from Students Loan Company to Smith Lawson (yeah I know they're the same company) to NCO, who decided not once but twice that there was no case to answer and so passed the case back to the SLC.
Now I'm being pestered by Credit Solutions Limited, who are not only repeating the demands for payment of the alleged "arrears", most of which in fact consists of £25 per letter type admin fees, which I believe are non-legally enforcible, but now they're telling me that the loan is due to mature in 2013, and that I will then be required to pay the loan back in full whatever I'm earning. This is the first I've heard of this, and I would dearly like to know the truth of the situation. |

| | Basic Account Customer | Re: Student Loan Maturity? Thanks, I'm aware that the "arrears" are mostly made up of admin charges/ However, all that Credit Solutions do is act on instructions from the SLC. I spoke to yet another of their reps tonight - I NEVER speak to them when they phone me - phoning them gets a much better response - in 32 days time they will be passing the case back to the SLC, there's nothing they can actually do.
One of the Credit Solutions rep even stated categorically that the SLC wouldn't take me to court. What puzzles me is their repeated insistence that my loan is due to be repaid in full in 5 years time whatever my financial circumstances.
As for NCO, they were very nasty at one point, until I eventually wrote to their head office, detailing all the circumstances of the case - that the SLC were in fact wholly responsible for the situation by giving me false information, ending the letter with "either take me to court or get off my back" .. and they, that is NCO, got off my back. Unlike the SLC, who merely took an elongated pause for breath before starting the entire process off all over again |

| | Basic Account Customer | Re: Student Loan Maturity? Credit Solutions gave up easier than I expected. However, The SLC have now passed the "case" to ScotCall, who have written to say that one of their agents will be calling. I've sent the following email to ScotCall: Quote:
Your ref: xxxxxxxx
Client ref: xxxxxxxx
Creditor: Students Loans Company
This morning I received a letter from yourselves, informing me that you are now handling an alleged debt owed to the Student Loans Company.
I wish to inform you that I dispute that there is any money owed to the Student Loans Company. The situation, as they have been informed, and as have several other debt collection agencies, has arisen entirely as a result of misinformation given to myself by the Student Loans Company. The sum of £426.17 consists largely of non-enforcible administration fees, the remainder (approximately £176) concerning a period during which they allege I was not covered by a deferral. The facts are as follows:
Several years ago, I returned a deferral form to the Student Loans Company. The form did not arrive. I therefore requested a replacement form, and was initially told that a replacement would be sent out, but was told at a later date that no replacement form would be sent out, and furthermore that no replacement form was required as my other loan had already been deferred, because if one loan was deferred, then all other loans, being subject to the same circumstances, would automatically be deferred. I have since been informed by that Student Loans Company that this is not the case, that I in fact need to ensure that each loan is individually deferred, and at a later date still, in fact my last communication with the Student Loans Company themselves, I was told that this situation had arisen because I transferred colleges halfway through the course, and that Student Loans Company were actually treating me as if I was two different people. On this occasion I was informed that the matter would now be cleared up, yet several months later, the Student Loans Company resumed their pursuit of this so-called debt, as they are apparently unable and/or unwilling to acknowledge the fact that they have made a mistake.
I also wish to inform you that your agents are NOT welcome at my property, that no invitation will be issued, that I refuse to enter into any communication with yourselves either in person or over the phone, but am willing to communicate with yourselves in writing.
| No reply yet, but I think that covers everything I need to tell them.
I'm still very curious about this "debt maturity" referred to by Credit Solutions. My understanding was that Student Loans never actually mature, but can be deferred for as long as the borrower's earnings remain under the threshold. Has anyone else ever had a similar threat from the SLC or any of the numerous agencies acting on their behalf? |
