help with Student Loan Company

Hey everyone. This is a magic site - hopefully someone out there can help me.


I took out Student loans when i was at uni (99 -03)

I'm quite disorganised but i managed to defer when i wasnt earning enough to pay back. However, Buchanan Clark and Wells are now contacting me looking for £700-odd, plus £200-odd charges on top.
Having gained a little confidence from reading posts on this site, I called them to enquire where all this came from and whether the charges were possibly illegal, the ignorant runt on the other end of the phone said no and told me I had to start paying big instalments there and then. I politely declined his generous offer, saying i wouuld contact Student Loans myself to get to the bottom of this.

So I did.

I called them today to find out why the repayments where never taken out of my wages, I told them that I had spoken to them when I started my current job (2004) and told them I was above the threshold and therefore eligible to repay.

I never noticed when the repayments stopped coming out of my wages, and didnt get much corespondance from them. They hit me with a bill around this time last year of over a grand, which i was foolish enough to pay.

So I have asked them to send out all the payment history and everything to do with my student loan accounts to me so I can figure out my next step - my credit rating isnt the best and I am in the process of trying to repair it.

Any clues?
