Default Need a bit of advice have a dilema

Hi all

I drive a 55 plate picasso on the motability scheme. Around the end of april one of the locals decided to smash my drivers window. Phoned autoglass who replaced the window. Window has never been right since sticking etc. Autoglass have replaced the glass again and gave it a spray of wd40 as well but have said it is a dealer problem. The car went into the dealer for a new set of brakes a few weeks ago i requested they have a look at the window and the man from the dealer said motability refused to give the go ahead for the work. Car went in for its MOT 3 days later and there was no mention of the window. On Sunday past the window completely failed it would not stay closed and you could push it up and down by hand not very secure went back to autoglass who have stuck it closed with black sticky tar strip or something similar. Phoned motability today regarding window and was told they will still not give the go ahead for the work to be done and advised me to make a claim for vandalism with their insurers. If i do this will i have to pay the excess even though it was not my fault, the car is due to be changed around the 12th of september so do i make a claim or do i leave it and explain i have tried to get it fixed but nobody wants to admit responsiblity.

Cheers
George

Hi George,
I don't know about your insurance/ mobility scheme but a similar incident happened to me.
I had a discovery and Vandals shot the double sunroofs out,
With my insurance I would have had to pay the excess because it was the sun roofs, if it had of been the windscreen or side windows I wouldn't have had to pay the excess. My husband put new sunroofs in himself.

If I were you I would leave it as it is because you are changing it in a couple of weeks.

Sounds to me like you need to go back to Autoglass, I think their fobbing you off saying to go to the dealer, and wd40 on some window rubbers can make them sticky.
Don't just give it back to mobility like that because they'll charge you for fixing it.

If you leave it there is a strong chance Motability will bill you for the repair work following the return of the car.

There's also a distinct policy of you being sanctioned for returning the car with unrepaired damage - I've known people to be barred from use of the scheme.

Personally i would ring motability to seek their advice
I think if you make them aware they might have the solution to your problem
In my opinion Autoglass are responsible for this and motability might agree, if they do you are onto a winner as Autoglass wont want to lose motability as a valued customer

George from past experience, when my Mum had her car vandalised several times motability made her pay for the damage when she took it back. Consequently I've opted twice now to purchase on motability finance for my daughters car and pick up the bills myself. Two smashed windows, I claimed on insurance for paying the excess. But someone recently told me that motability are now more flexible with leased cars and you don't have to pay for damage when you take it back and also the mileage allowance is higher too.
I'm going to check this out, but not in a position to swap cars just yet.
