Default Disability and SEN; self-help, welfare and legal support links

I thought it would be useful to post a selection of helpful links so we do not have to keep re-inventing the wheel. I will start with a general help and advice ones but I am aware that there are lots of issue-specific websites, for example for diabetics, prem babies, special educ needs etc.

Please note: this is not a discussion/requests for help/questions thread but a place to share good links and resources.

Let's go then:
Community Legal Advice This website offers free, confidential and independent legal advice for residents of England and Wales
Citizens Advice corporate website - Home General help and support
myWorkPlace Expert Patients Programme "Self-management course giving people the confidence, skills and knowledge to manage their condition better and be more in control of their lives"
Home page | British Red Cross Red Cross will loan wheelchairs for short periods for a minimum deposit
Benefits and Work The downloadable guides on this site for filling in the forms for Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance & Incapacity Benefit are brilliant. Have one to hand when you fill in the form question by question.
Department for Work and Pensions For the doctors eye view of those pesky medicals
Advicenow: independent law and rights advice, legal service providers, advice service alliance, UK - Turned down for DLA/AA? Think you're not getting enough?

Brilliant idea Joa

These are some of the organisations that have helped my family.

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers is the largest provider of comprehensive carers support services in the UK. they help with form filling such as DLA, carer support( trips out, courses or just a chat), young carers support. They have been wonderful to us.

Shopmobility provide wheelchairs and scooters some free of charge some for a small fee so that you can shop. One scheme lent me a scooter to go abroad for £25.

Dyslexia Action
is a national charity and the UK's leading provider of services and support for people with dyslexia and literacy difficulties. For parents on benefits they do have burseries.

Legal stuff

The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 can be found here:
Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (c. 50)

Also handy are:

1. The Disability Discrimination (Providers of Services) (Adjustment of Premises) The Disability Discrimination (Providers of Services) (Adjustment of Premises) Regulations 2001

2. The Special Educational Needs and Disability Act Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001 (c. 10)

3. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2006...0060025_en.pdf
a. Page 317 onwards of this .pdf document details the provisions made for disabled people when their guardian passes away
b. page 401 onwards of this .pdf details the rules around trust funds for disabled people and inheritance tax

just been browsing this site to help someone having problems with exclusions. does anyone know how half day exclusions are added up, say four half days equals two days in relation to the fixed periods?
