Hi there,

When I was a student I had an account with Smile with a £500 overdraft limit. I went over this by a couple of quid and spend the next 12 months fighting off the rediculous charges (£5 a day or something silly like that). I now do my banking with Bank of Scotland who I'll go after in due course but I want to start with Smile because of the amount of stress and grief and just how rediculous their charges are/were.

I have a couple of problems though. Firstly I can't seem to find any old statements so I don't know my account number and secondly I've moved house since I closed the account so my current address doesn't match the one the account was under.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to approach this?

Hi and welcometo the forum.

I would start by writing to them asking for your account number. Give them all the details of your name and previous address and include photocopies of proof of ID both from your previous and current addresses.

If the evidence you provide is insufficient I'm certain they will alert you to what they need.

thanks for the welcomes and the advice I'll drop them a letter and see what they say. I have details of an ISA I had with them once so hopefully that will help identify me.

I have an existing current account with smile, indeed it's the only one I've got. I requested a copy of all all charges dating back to the start of the account back in 2002.
They subsequently wrote back saying that I had to pay a £10 cheque to receive this information and it would take 40 - yes 40 - days to supply it. This cheque was cashed on the 5th May and I've heard nothing back as yet, but apparently they do offer this service.

haven't got round to doing anything with this yet cause I'm going for BoS first. Going to send Smile a letter with all my recent addresses, a photocopy of my driving license and a letter relating to an ISA I had. Hopefully that'll be enough for them to identify me
