Usually a fairly expensive supermarket.

I have found in 3 local branches that if you fancy a shopping trip around 2pm on a Sunday you can pick up some real bargains. They seem to do a mass reduction about that time ready for the new week.

Our best saving which included two massive joints of Aberdeen Angus topside was £47. We paid £17 at the till for virtually a trolley load of shopping. Make sure you check out the butchery, fish monger and deli counters as they clear it all.

Other day we bought 3 x chorizo sausages for 49p each reduced from £6.99, scallops for 39p from £5.99, and you can always get decent bread for about 15p a loaf.

They do the best reductions I have seen out of all the supermarkets.

Thanks for the tip. I used to go to Tesco's around that time on a Sunday but have progressed to Sainsbury's as I prefer their meat. Might give Waitrose a try tomorrow.8)

I agree with that. Plus, if Waitrose have a 342 offer or similar but then reduce the item, the original offer is still valid so you get a double discount.

Our best one was when we just popped in for milk but luckily must have got there just as they did final reductions on the meats and other bits and pieces. We ended up with £140 worth of shopping which we paid just over £30 for:D

You do have to work out the times for your stores reductions though as their normal ones throughout the day are pretty pants, especially when you consider the price is higher in the first place.

Wow, I can't believe you all saved so much, what a great tip. I'm definitely going to check out my local Waitrose next Sunday. Thanks :)

I couldn't agree with you more about Sainsburys meat! We buy 95% of our meat from there, and they always have offers on too - their meat is such high quality, we get the Silverside joints for half or two thirds off price (around £10 rather than £20/£30) , they're huge and we cut then in half making to large Sunday joints, sometimes they're so big we get either three joints or two joints and a few nice steaks out of it (you need a good sharp butchers boning knife mind you). We also get their full legs of lamb for around the £10 mark too, and can quite easily get a Sunday dinner, a curry and some other concoction of a meal out of that lol!

Then there's their chickens, 3 for £10, their chicken breasts, 3 packs for £10 - and their lamb steaks are roughly the same! They even had Grassington duck crowns going for £5 each the other day, so I snapped up two of those

I do love Waitrose too, but as we all know it can be obscenely expensive - however, having seen these offers I will be giving this a go! So thank you very much!

Oh, also - Waitrose do offers on the best basmati rice ever, Tilda, and it's a 10kg bag for £18 - you'll not get that cheaper anywhere else!
