Hi there,I have read that some of the banks may close the accounts of those reclaiming unfair bank charges. The general advice is to open another account as a safeguard against this happening. However, my account has got into such a bad way as a result of these recurrent charges that I would not know which bank to approach regarding opening a new account or whether I would even be accepted by another bank. Any ideas, anyone?
Re: Unfair charges/ Bank threatening to close account
Which bank are you with now?
You should be able to get a fairly basic account for example a Natwest Step Account. Other banks offer similar accounts for example Nationwide and Woolwich.
Why was this posted in the 'garage services' section?? Have moved to the general section for now, but this should be in the relevant section for your bank.

Re: Unfair charges/ Bank threatening to close account
The bank is Barclays - they haven't actually threatened it yet , but i am anticipating that they probably will given the treatment I have received from them in the past. Also, I was unable to find out where to send the initial SAR, so handed it in with the £10.00 fee to my branch. I hope this is not going to confuse things ....
Re: Unfair charges/ Bank threatening to close account
It should be fine - did you manage to get a receipt?
Not to worry if not, just hope that they cash the cheque.
We've had reports of banks (Abbey mainly - suprise!!) claiming never to have received the letter, yet the cheque that was in the letter had been cashed.
My, they don't care how stupid they look, so long as they get money!
