Hi, i know its not classed as utilities but it seemed the best section to put my query on.
How long can someone leave it until chasing a council tax payment?
I received a bill this morning from my council for a property which i havent lived in for at least 5 years.
I know i made payments on the council tax bill - but they are saying they have no record of the payments which i am going to chase up with my bank(hopefully they can halp me)
Within 6 years of the debt occurring. After that period if the debt remains the Council can go to Court and ask for a Liability Order. The liability order allows the council to deduct the council tax debt from your wages or benefits. The Council will be granted the liability order unless you defend the debt.
