    Default AA contents insurance

    Hi

Im trying to find a good insurer.

I have a diamond ring I need to insure on the policy as it is over £3000.

The AA quoted me £147.28. Thats a £50 excess. new for old, and accidental cover.

It semms good, but im not 100% sure, as there are SO many insurers out there.

Any one got any thought on this? Is the AA good, can i get better elsewhere?

    Cheers Lou

    Hi Lou,

Does the £147.28 include your other contents or is that just the ring ?

You'll be fine with this, won't get much cheaper than that. The AA have a small panel of insurers who they deal with who are all reputable. Did they give you the name of the insurer they will place the business with ?

I would check that the ring is covered for accidental loss / theft away from the home. There are some insurers that will specify the ring on contents cover only unless asked, that does not include accidental loss, and from experience this is the most common claim made on a ring...

    Abbey - owed £3260 - Paid up.

Barclays owed £2500 - Paid up.

Halifax, Mint & Egg - next on the hit list

Dont click on the scales - I'm quite proud of my little red dot! - As the little red dot has gone - click away!!!!

    Hi there,

Have you had it valued as if it comes time that you need to claim you need to ensure that you can prove that you have specified it at its true worth.

Make sure you have a pre loss valuation certificate as you will need this if you ever need to claim and want to be able to replace it on a true like for like basis.

So keep your valuation up to date and the AA quote seems good but ensure as previously mentioned it is fully covered for all possible mis haps and read the policy cover when you get it.

Worst thing is if you cant prove it was worth the amount you specified it for in the event of a claim and you wont be happy if you end up with a reduced or no claim
