Default RBS claim I dont exist!!

    Hi guys!
Have contacted RBSicon and MINT visa in regard to a Breakdownicon of all penalty charges on the two cards both closed last year, they have both returned my letter claiming they have no record of me.
I made a call to them and have been told that they hold NO records of customers a/cs after 6 months and are all deleted. They say they have no possible way of finding my old information and if I cannot provide account numbers there is nothing that I can do. Are they right on this? I was of the understanding that information had to be kept for 6 yearsicon?
One useful lady at MINT (!?) did suggest I speak to Experian to get the account information but failed to understand my disbelief that she was expecting me to go to a third party to retrieve information that MINT had created in order for me to go BACK to MINT to give it to them?!!!
Has anybody got any advice on this I'm at a bot of a loss as to what to do now!
    thanks!

As sparkie points out they need to keep records for at least 6 yearsicon. This is to comply with the Inland Revenue and anti money laundering legislation. If they are seriously trying to say that they don't you may wish to inform them that you will be reporting the matter to HM Customs and HM Treasury. They may very quickly change their mind about how far their records go back as conviction by either HM department means a jail sentence.
