Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Long time lurker, but have finally got myself together to take on Egg!
My credit card is actually £17.11 in credit at present, after I paid it off back in October (And the trouble I had doing that, it was almost as if EGG didn't want me to pay it off ...), and yesterday I sent them a SAR via their Secure messaging service. I did tell to take the £10 of the credit I have on my card ...
This is going to be more of a record for me to keep track as to where I am (I've also kicked off a claim against RBS, in for a penny, in for a pound!), but please feel free to post anything I may need to know!
We can provide you with a copy of all the information which Egg holds about you. We charge £10 for processing a data subject information request and we also request identification documents in order to verify your details.
We've arranged for the appropriate letter to be sent and you'll receive this shortly. This letter will explain what documents we need you to provide.
As soon as we have received your payment and identification document we'll start processing your request and you'll get your information within 40 days of us receiving those documents.
If you pay the £10 charge by cheque, you won't have to pay the standard cheque handling fee that is applied to cheque payments made to an Egg Card or Egg Money account.
If you require any further information please contact us by sending a secure message.
Off to trawl the other threads for the correct way of phrasing "Are you saying your secure messaging service isn't in fact secure"! And I will also remind Egg that my account is £17.11 IN CREDIT, so they can take their £10 from that ... And, that the clock started ticking when I sent them the original SAR ...
I have a search button for the Consumer Action Group forums, and I'm not afraid to use it!
Well I sent my secure message asking if the secure message service wasn't in fact secure, and got the following ....:
Dear Ed_P
I apologise for any inconvenience caused.
However, I can assure you that our secure message service is secure.
We take your privacy very seriously indeed. For your peace of mind, your information and accounts are protected by 128-bit encryption through our website.
You can check that you're in a secure page by one of two main methods as follows:
* Firstly, the address (URL) at the top of your screen begins with https rather than http.
* Secondly, there should be a padlock on the bottom of your tool bar. Move your mouse cursor over this and it will come up as SSL Secure (128 bit).
You can now carry on servicing your account with peace of mind, and if you do need any more re-assurance, we're always here to help.
Further identification is required as an extra security measure to ensure your personal details remain private.
I'm unable to take £10.00 from your credit balance of £17.11 to pay for the Subject access request. If you pay by cheque, you won't have to pay the standard cheque handling fee that is applied to cheque payments made to an Egg Card.
Please reply to this message confirming your external bank account details and I can arrange to send your credit balance back to you electronically via BACS.
Sort code: xx-xx-xx
Account number: xxxxxxxx
This will take five working days to process.
Now I'm sure I've seen SAR's sent by the secure message system being accepted before .. I won't be able to search the forum until this evening, so if anyone knows where I'd find an example, I'd appreciate it!
And is the bit about not being able to take the £10 from my credit also correct? Answers on a post to the normal address ...
