Hi, just wondering if anyone can throw any light on this:-
I had an Egg CC which was set up online in 2000. I used to pay it by direct debit, early on I used to receive e-mail notification of the payment they would be taking, I can't really remember what other info was in these e-mails. Well they stopped arriving at some point again I can't remember when, although they continued to draw a DD from my bank account. Due to serious health problems my income dropped drastically and a DD was returned due to lack of funds. I made an appointment to see the CAB advisor who held sessions at the hospital I was in, she advised me to cancel the DD and that she would contact them to get them to freeze interest and to try a negotiate a token payment. By this time, due to them not sending the monthly e-mails I had no idea what my balance was, but I was quite sure I had been given a credit limit of 5K. Well they agreed to freeze interest and suspend any action 'for a time'. Following on from that they totally ignored any correspondence from CAB. This was in late 2003. Again in early 2006 I went back to CAB, who again wrote to Egg, who again ignored them. CAB closed my case stating they couldn't make people respond to them! Subsequently the debt, which was now nearly 7k, was sold to Capquest...who give them their due have been OK with me, allowing me to make £1 token payments...to be reviewed in 2048!
So, I decided to send a SAR to Egg to see what had been going on. I sent the standard letter from templates & £10 cheque on 16th April. This morning I received a 6 page Transaction Summary of Account from Egg, plus my cheque and a letter stating ' Also find enclosed your cheque for £10 as there has been no charge for this service'
Well...I can't make much sense out of it, they had agreed to freeze interest but thay had still been adding it..from my last rubber payment in Nov '03 until Apr '04. From Apr '04 until Oct '04 nothing appears on the summary, then Oct '04 it says Charge Off Account -£xxxx.xx, next line same date says Refund of Interest -£xxx.xx.
Another odd thing is that although up until my health probs I had only had 1 payment returned, they charged me £20, but when my last payment was returned I wasn't charged a penalty, and no £20 penailties have been added since me cancelling the DD and not paying!
I don't want to rock the boat with Capquest at the moment, so can I send CCA to Egg...I really want to find out what my credit limit was.
Any advice on any of the above gratefully received.
