Default Do Banks charge other Banks?

Quick question - if my direct debiticon is returned unpaid to my bank/building society for my mortgageicon, for example, - is my bank/building society charged for this by their bank?

Would be interested to know your views.

    Thank you - Jackie

i am going to bump this up because a cost would be involved but not as high as what is charged at the moment.

Well given that they charge if an internal transfer is returned I'm going to guess at they don't!

Most of the large banks are members of the UK clearing system (APACS) so they run their own accounts. This issue may apply to the smaller banks and building societies and I would guess that they would be charged something but given the volume of transactions going through this would probably be pennies.
