Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Last year we applied for and got a mortgage. The purchase never completed and we moved.
A month or so ago some old mail was forwarded and in it were 2 letters from the mortgage company informing us that we were in arrears on our mortgage (Arrears Balance: £9,047.65”)!
I have since rang this company 3 times and each time they seem completely confused by my call-and each time they promise to correct their mistake-and I've just received another arrears letter.
What should I do about this as my husband and I are getting ever so slightly concerned that this will affect us in the future. I've sent a letter off to them but they're saying they haven't received this as yet.
Re: Don't have mortgage but getting arrears letters!
First thing to do is stop dealing with the call centres, you need the head office for this one, they'll clear the "arrears" and will more than likely compensate you for distress. Which company is it and I'll get some details for you ?;-)
Re: Don't have mortgage but getting arrears letters!
Hi, thanks for your reply,.
It was with a company called Mortgages One, based in Glasgow.
Though to be honest I think we're dealing with their main office (in Glasgow)-do you think I should speak to someone higher up the food chain? I've actually been calling the "arrears dept" listed on the letters we've been sent.
Re: Don't have mortgage but getting arrears letters!
Ok, crikey, this company is massive ! Doesn't excuse mistakes though.
Yes they are part of Merril Lynch. The head office is here :
MERRILL LYNCH FINANCIAL CENTRE,
2 KING EDWARD STREET,
LONDON,
EC1A 1HQ
The only email address I can find is margaret.pinagli@mortgage splc.com who is their contact on the FSA register. I would assume that all of the other email addresses are the same.
Here is you head honcho - TREVOR JOHN POTHECARY so send your letter to him.
In fact, have a look at this page, it gives you all of the directors details

Make sure you check out your creditfiles with Experian et al...
It only costs £2 per agency but it will either ease your worry over this affecting you in future or add to your complaint with the mortgage company.

Thanks alot surreyscouse. Trevor Pothecary got back to me-usual apologies thing but also offered £100 compensation (genuinely, I was not expecting any).
I'm going to make a donation when I get the money.
Thanks again.
