Default NHS Dentist - wisdom teeth removal complications

My wife had an infected wisdom tooth removed two months ago. There were complications and it took over an hour as the doctor/dentist had not recognised that it had a abmormal root structure.

The force used to remove the tooth has led to damage to the jaw, everytime she opens her mouth it clicks loudly, she suffers for delibitating headaces (causing vomiting) and the musules on the back of her neck and sholders are now continually tense and rock solid. (while also having to look after three young children)

She went back to the hospital asking for some help or therapy and they said there was noting they could do, gave her pain killers, and said that if it locked open (common with this type of jaw damage) she should go to A&E.

What can I do to get her some help, i.e. some physical therapy.

    any advice apreciated

So sorry to hear about your wife.

It sounds as if she's being having a dreadful time. And having to care for the three children too - my heart goes out to her.

I would suggest she makes an urgent appointment with her GP & request that he make an URGENT referral for her to see a doctor in the Maxillo-Facial dept of your local hospital. They would look at & Xray the jaw & neck area & would be able to help.

Did she have a course of anti-biotics afterwards? She could have an infection/re-occurring infection.

    They specialise in teeth/jaw problems.

Push for approriate pain killers & anti-emetics (stops the nausea/vomiting).

Also, request that the GP refer to a physiotherapist. However I would probably suggest she see a maxillo-facial consultant first.

Dont be fobbed off by the GP. They are there to assist you!

Also, make a diary of the dates that she had the tooth out, when the headaches started, when the vomiting started. The type of painkillers she has been on, whats worked/what hasnt etc.

Its wrong that she's still experiencing these symptoms, & the system is failing her if nothing has sorted it out by now.

Keep pushing until you feel you have got what you need.

    Good Luck
