Default Going Places/Manchester Britannia Hotel Parking Problems

    Hi

Not sure which thread to put this in really!

Looking for any kind of advice really.

I booked a holidayicon to Thailand with Going Places, as my holiday approached i decided to book a hotel with parking so i could leave my car and have a room when i returnedin the early hours from holiday.

We chose the Britannia airporticon Hotel Manchester.
Dropped the car off on 3/4/07 and were due to return 19/4/07.
Arrived back at the hotel in the early hours of 20/4/07 and checked out at 11am on the 20th.
Got to my car to find my car had been broken into the passenger window had been broken and subsequently taped up with plastic.
Basically my car was broken into on the evening of the 9th of April and not discovered until the day after. The crime was not reported to the police until the 20th April on my return.
The hotel has a sign statingit accepts no responsibility for any damage to cars.
We found out from the general manager that 6-7 cars a week are being broken into, some further investigation discovered its more like 6-7 a day.
The hotel has 24 hr security and cctv but still break ins happen.
They have a offsite secure car park but that wasnt offered to us neither were we informed that the car park was not safe to leave a vehicle in.

Basically does anybody think ive got a case against the hotel or the travel agents??

nope, sorry - has happened to us before and whilst its annoying they weren't offering security just somewhere to leave your car.

Dont think you can blame the travel agent either!

I'm a Travel Agent, and I didnt know that till I just read it on your post (will be sure to advise my clients now though!!)

Basically, if were not told about such incidents, we cannot pass on such info to you guys, cant tell you what we dont know! I would be ok if we were sent all around the world to try these things out for you, but sadly it doesn't happen like that. We're only human at the end of the day.

As the previous poster states, the Hotel was not offering security to you, and the signs are proof of this. At your own perrill!

No claim - just part of life.

I had the same experience at the Britannia Hotel in Coventry - but the hotel manager dealt with the problem very well.

The side window was broken to steal my sat-nav (yes, I know, I left it on view, silly fool me) and the hotel taped it over straight away. They also reported the break-in immediately and got a crime number from the police.

I arrived back several days later, and struggled to get a replacement window. The hotel accommodated us overnight and gave us breakfast completely free, the night manager phoned out for pizza for us (as the restaurant had closed) and the manager lent us his office phone the following morning to ring around again for a replacement window.

Full marks to the hotel manager and brownie points to Britannia hotels.

Of course, once bitten-twice shy, I now use security car parks......
