    Default Credit Card Problem Offers

    Hi,

RBSicon & Barclaycard have offered me the difference between the charges I have incurred and the £12 fee recommended by the OFT in 2006. So for example I have a string of £20/£18/£15 charges going back six years with both cards and I would only be entitled to £8/£6/£3 for each late charge instead of the full £20.

They dismiss the interesticon I have shown in my schedule using Martin's calculator by the way!

I was told that credit card late charges are treated differently because of the OFT reccomendations of capping such charges to £12 in 2006.
But can these credit card companies use this £12 cap for all late charges prior to 2006?

I would really appreciate some advice on this one.

    Many thanks

Plonker, this is a sticky in the general forum....

    http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...ft-not-so.html

Whilst this is in relation to the decision by the OFT on current accounts it applies to the decision made by the OFT on credit cards last year. Just because the OFT recommended a 12 quid charge it doesn't make it lawful as a result, you should continue your claim for the full amount.

Not surprised the dismissedicon this! Martin's calculator if I remember rightly adds 8% statutory interest from the start which is wholly incorrect. If they offer you the full amount less this interest, then you will have to accept it.
