Talking Electric lemon - needing advice re:claim of old barclays account??

    Hi there,

I do have a couple of threads elsewhere as I have just started the claiming process for Barclaysicon & Barclaycard, however, I am a little bamboozled about what to do next with this issue.

A few years ago ?2001 - 2003 I had a bank account with Barclays. I didnt operate it very well really & then closed the account. Im sure I only had it for a couple of years. Nevertheless, I know that I incurred charges.

My husband only reminded me of this account tonight. Clever isnt he!

I have no details of the account at all. Shredded it all. So, how on earth do I start to reclaim charges for an account I used to have but cant give the account number??

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks soooooo much.

    Best,
    Electric Lemon

Hi Electric lemon, and let me just say i love the name!!

Yes you can claim from a closed account. I would send a DPA SARicon as you obviously have with the other claims, and put the full name and address of the account holder in the letter (i know you would anyway). Add a section in to say you do not have the account number. Give them the branch details of where it was opened. They should have no bother finding it for you.
I had to do this for my brother with his Lloydsicon account, and they were quite happy to send the info to him. They may ask you to go into your local branch with ID to prove you are who you are, but whats a little work if it means you will be able to reclaim your charges!!

All advice is based on my experiences. I am NOT qualified and as such cannot be held responsible for any mistakes. If in doubt...get professional help.
If you like what i have said then make me a star!!

    Many thanks Mrs Foot,

    I shall do just that.

And, thank you for being so kind about my name!!

I've had it for years & came up with it in my teens when I used to go on ?ham radios!!!! There used to be loads of us girls & fellas cruising around in our cars clicking on & off our little hand sets attached to our radios, forever saying....

    breaker, breaker...
    Come in....
    comeback....
    over & out....
    smokey bear in the vicinity....
    etc, etc

    Oooooooooooh, those were the days!!!!!!!!!!

I shall now start a thread elsewhere & copy & paste.

    Best wishes to you,
    Electric

I never got around to doing another thread but would like to say here today...

    I'VE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
My it feels good to say that!!!!

Sent off my SARS Beg April
    Got statements within 3 weeks
Charges amounted to £215. (Not bad for a little extra that I had forgot!)
    Sent Prelim
They sent letter saying...looking into it will contact you by July.
    NO THANKS!
Sent lbaicon, & day after sent it thought I would call to encourage them, whioch was a week ago!

This is where it gets juicy!

Spoke to a right little stressball of a bloke called Tim Stringer.
Flippin'eck he was almost screeching down the phone at me when I said the charges were unlawful. Oh my gosh, it was quite dreadful. He seriously needs to take a chill-pill!

Think I shook him up though when I started stating the date & calling him by his full name. He clearly thought I was recording him!

Anyway, he then said he had the authority to give back the £215, but couldnt as I had said they were unlawful.
    I then said:
"OK, as a gesture of goodwillicon would you like to reimburse me?"
And, he said yes I would.
He then said that he would send a letter out for me to sign & then I would get the money.

He couldnt put money into account that day as I had sent an LBA????

I waited a week for this letter & nothing - what a Twit this bloke was.

Anyway, I phoned yesterday & spoke to such a LOVELY man called Andrew Walker. He told me he was a manager.

I explained the situation to him & he said that this should have been dealt with last week & immediately put £100 into my account & said a letters going out today, sign it & return & you'll have the other half.

    Fantastic!

It meant that we were able to get some merchandise today from the Wiggles concert for the Tiddly-peeps. (which was veeeery expensive! £10 for a baseball hat, £10 for a t-shirt, £6 a balloon!!!).

So, altogether took only about 9 weeks.

Wish though that I had called earlier!

However its a win - & my first win, so if theres a moderator around who might want to change the heading that would be great!!

Its basically another success with Barclaysicon - HURRAY!!!
