Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Having discovered this website via the Martin Lewis website - how fantastic, I am now motivated to take on Alliance & Leicester for the £50 charges, applied to my account over the last few months for them having to pay a direct debit for my rent due to my housing benefit cheque not having cleared yet. So yes, the money appeared to be in my account when I looked at the cash-point, but they are arguing the cheque was not cleared and thus funds not available!!
Initially I went into the branch - they offered me an empty office and a phone and called the number for me. I spoke to a Customer Adviser - I argued as a single mum on a very tight budget £25 was almost a week's food shopping for me and I thought the charge unreasonable in the circumstances. She said she would talk to her supervisor and they would write to me. The letter duly arrived two days later and said sorry but the charges are set out in their terms and conditions. I let it go.
I get a letter a week a go charging me another £25, due to the same occurrance. I really can't afford this...so thank's to Martin Lewis and this website I'm off to make an official complaint and to get my hard earned money back!
