Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi. I have already applied for copies of statements and charges for my current account, this account is still open but empty. I am now going to apply for the same for my Credit Card, now this card was/is Abbey National, however when anyone phones they introduce themselves as MBNA, the paperwork is still Abbey though. I owe around £3400 on this credit card, am well over my limit, all through charges. Is Abbey National just a "name" on the card now? I am just wondering, if I am lucky enough to win charges back on my current account, will it go directly into my Credit Card account, obviously if I am luck enough to win charges back from my Card I expect it to go straight on there.
Anyone out there with experience of the Abbey National Credit Card? I think that they changed hands about 9 years ago and I think Abbey is just a figure head so-to-speak
Any comments appreciated.
any reclaimed charges from your current account will either be paid into your current account, or a cheque will be sent to you.
MBNA are the Abbey credit card people, and my understanding was it became a bit of a partnership (Abbey had the customers, MBNA could run the 'business' cheaper).
Thank you. I think you have pretty much confirmed what I thought. I have spent all weekend reading sooooo many messages on this site and quite honestly cannot wait to get things started now.
To help me "estimate" what I could claim for, and because I shred all my statements, can anyone tell me how much Abbey have been charging over the past six years for Late Fees etc on their Credit Card... then it will be x 12 and x 6 I think...... Is there an online calculator for the credit card, as the interest rate is different isn't it?
hi just to confirm, have the 40days needed for the bank to send you your statements passed yet? Do you have ANY statements with which to base your estimate?
The 40days are not up yet.....
I do not have any credit card statements, although I pay a late fee every month and probably have for the past six years. Have been over my limit for about six years, purely cos of there charges,, and ill health for about 18 months. The current account has been empty for a year, but I would estimate about 15 charges per year between 2000-06
What a disasterous state to be in. If this works I could be debt free for the first time in about 15 years
Abbey (MBNA) is only a link to Abbey they do not have access to you accounts with Abbey. Abbey are now in the process of setting up their own credit card business, but you need to set up an account with another bank, savings or current account. Have a simple savings account with Abbey, trans fur your money from current account to savings, have an Abbey cheque drawn down immediately to self, and pay into new account in another bank. Abbey can not touch your money and shift any where they like ( although this maybe in material breach of their settlement with you if they do take that money?) buy placing the money in savings account you avoid the charge that the bank wants to levy (£10 was the last I heard?) for the writing of cheque.
Good luck. Abbey will take you to the limit but stand firm. When their solicitors spoke to me last they said they were in the process of contacting all the claimants?
Wondered where you are at in terms of sorting out your charges? I currently have one claim going through with Abbey for my current account - this is in the latter stages and I hope won't go on too much longer.
I've just started out on the credit card trail - Abbey credit card - dealt with by MBNA apparently. I sent off my S.A.R (Subject access request) in April - they have until 6th June to comply (their 40 days). I probably have the last two years statements but am waiting for ones beyond that. Wouldn't even attempt to estimate - tried that with my current account and found I was almost £1000 under, which I could have lost if I hadn't waited.
Abbey are notoriously difficult and will take everything to the limit. Read lots of threads.....ask lots of questions. There are some great people on here that are only too pleased to help.
hi,
just received a letter from Abbey yesterday telling me they have entered a defence to my bank charges claim-what happens next as hmcs now say "this is far as it goes online"!
