Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Well I studied the site some time ago but wimped out at the last moment because The Halifax refunded 4 charges that we had a recieved that month (it was their fault actually)!! We didn't want to p*** them off incase they withdrew our overdraft that we currently live in.
But now that I have returned to work full time the future is looking bright. However the last couple of years have been taxing. A new baby, a house purchase, loss of two jobs, wage cut, crappy maternity pay!!!! the list is endless. Like most couples we have run into money worries. The last few months have been quite bad, as we tried to survive on my part time salary, hence why I am now returning full time! On tuesday 9th Jan The Halifax will deduct £180 for six paid DD plus £28 for going over our overdraft limit! Phew! So tonight I thought "Why?". Why have we sat back and allowed them to do this, thinking that we have a good relationship? We are the little people and the little people always pay.
A friend who has been hit with unemployment a few years ago has found herself in a similar situation with a different bank. We will do this together as its quite scary with the courts etc. Support and courage are the key words here! So cheers and Happy New Year to all of us!
Instalment number one therefore reads..............

Hello again,
Sorry to be so computer illiterate (Air hostess!) but how do i bookmark threads that i have found useful and put them in a folder as so many people have recommended. This would save me so much time and be a major help.
Secondly, I didn't send my SAR by recorded delivery (slap wrists)! Would you recommend sending another cheque and letter?
Any hints would be greatly appreciated as out of the country and awful lot and busy with a lively 1 year old LOL

Many thanks. What do you reckon about sending my SAR again by recorded delivery?
Secondly, I have decided to take out a bank loan for my overdraft (not with The Halifax!), if I can get one, just to keep on hold in another account (not with the halifax) incase they get arsey and whip our overdraft away. Will start looking in the week when I get back in country.

Another way to bookmark pages/threads is in your browser. If you're using Internet Explorer it's all in Favorites (American spelling) at the top of the page. You can create folders and move bookmarked pages about in there.
The fast way is to hold down CTRL and press D (CTRL+D) and that adds the current page to Favourites. You can 'organize favorites' and move them about, even give them a name you want to know the saved pages by.
If you've sent a SAR already, see if they've cashed the cheque - that proves they've had the request. Or call their head office on 01422 280880 and ask for the Data Protection office, just to confirm they've received it. If you send another they could happily bank two cheques...
Be good to those who give you advice that helps - click the star below to give them your thanks by way of a reputation credit.
I've launched my CAG inspired site at http://hillards.co.cc/ for anyone who wants to know what the DCA's are really like, or what a CCA or SAR is... Lots of good reading!

Thanks hillards. Kinda know what you mean about Favorites . Guess I will just have to have a muck around with it. I have millions of favourites saved, so just have to learn how to rename them and put them in folders. Anyway, I will wait two weeks to see if said cheque is cashed. If not then I will send another and just claim back for the two!

Hi - welcome and good luck. I too am claiming against the Halifax. Have a look at my thread - jaxads - to see my timescales. I think they've been really quick and am now just in the process of sending back my signed offer - for the full amount I requested!!! This site is excellent for information, advice and support. go get em kazdoc. Best wishes. jaxads x
kazdoc, welcome. If you have no idea of how much your charges come to you can ring them in the meantime and ask them for a basic print out of charges, I did this while waiting for my statements, I worked off this for my spreadsheet and it enabled me to get my letters out much quicker while waiting for my statements, it's good that you have sent off you SAR though as you will get the letter re:manual intervention - that way you have done everything in the right way.
Many thanks Doo,
Don't get me started on spreadsheets though! Never had an office job in my life, never run my own enterprise, therefore never seen a spreadsheet! PC does not have Excel on it. Help! Dreading that part.
Martins Money Tips website has a very easy to use table to work out bank charges, would it be ok to use that? Or is it not recomended?:o

Must admit hubby did the spreadsheet I felt the same as you. Just put a post on here when you are ready and someone will help you, thats how we started - I think had I persevered I could have done spreadsheet but as hubby is good with computer I passed that job over. Perhaps someone else could comment on the other website, I have seen it but not used it.
Today we were due to be charged £180 for 6 DD's but so far these have not been debited from our account. Could it be that they have recieved my SAR and have put two and two together? Has this happened to anyone else? Or should I not be too generous with my good thoughts and wait til close of business?

kazdoc, don't want to spoil the party but am pretty sure your charges will be taken out later today, I have often thought they are not going out but like magic are there the next morning. I honestly have not seen any posts to the contrary. Looking on the bright side though you can just add them onto your spreadsheet - so you will get them back anyway.
Me needs to ask a question. I promise that I have been reading, reading, reading, but I have not found the answer to this. I was having a look at the N1 form and how to complete it and noticed that there is a part where you calculate further interest. It was calculated as follows: charges + overdraft interest X 0.00022 = pence per day. Now I understand how to do the math, but how do I calculate what the overdraft interest is????? I have no idea on this one guys, many apolgies, help greatly appreciated as I want to be as prepared as possible.

Hi kaz,
A lot of people dont bother with this one, apparently it takes a lot of working out. But if you wanted to try im sure someone on here could help you with it.
Also if you are still worried about the spread sheets at the time, give one of us a shout. (that was the bit i was dreading the most! I had no idea) We will all help you through.
Thank you so so so much. Dont reckon I will bother with that one.
Just had a look at vampiress's simple version of the spreadsheet (the one with 8% interest) and got stuck immediately.
date of claim. Is this first bank charge or date I am submitting to the court?
Total claim. I guess this is the total amount of charges?
Daily interest rate: HELP!!!!!!!
Total amounts: I guess this is the total claim plus 8%interest.?
I guess my biggest fear is that i'm not that great on the PC. I can just about navigate this site! And have no idea what half the technical jargon means. lol
