Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I have been reading the posts here with great interest.I have an Alliance & Leicester current account with a £250 overdraft.Yesterday,I realised that some direct debits were due which would have taken me a few pounds over my limit. Therefore,I transferred cash from my online Saver account to cover them.Or so I thought!Today I get a letter saying I have been charged £25,although according to my statement I did not exceed my overdraft limit.
I have just come off the telephone after ringing an advisor on 08703 333 444 who told me in no uncertain terms that the cash should have been in the account on the Friday evening because 'the transactions had to be processed manually rather than by the computer and staff need a nice warm office with a soft chair to sit on and these are called overheads.' So tough luck, the charges stand!
I was appalled at the flippant response and asked for the name of someone I could write to and get a personal response instead of a standard letter with a rubber stamp at the bottom. The advisor refused to tell me any names, said he had given the correct response, was terminating the call and promptly hung up.
I then rang Bootle and spoke to a supervisor who gave me the name of a Richard Pym to address a complaint to,although he did say that the telephone advisors were given standard responses.(as if we hadn't guessed) Whether this includes putting the telephone down on customers is anyone's guess.
I will write in and complain, but I will also be looking for another Bank to deal with.Frankly,Alliance and Leicester are not worth bothering with and I wish all the best to those here going through hassle with them.

Yes I am going to claim the charge back, but A & L seem very keen to close the accounts of customers who stand up to them, and like some others,I will be looking to open a reserve account before that happens.
Now,the question is,are there any reputable banks out there?
