Hello everyone,
I am please to join this forum today. Here and now I would like to share my experiences with bank charge!
I am one of a person with low income and on a very tight budget each week. And I have experience it all about bank charges. Every time I was charge £28 - £35 for gone overdrawn by £1.00+/-...I grin and bear and vow not to get in this situation again!?! Then I slip in again and again. I have to pay penalty charge for being poor… In 2001, after return from visiting my family abroad, I was back to face with the charge of nearly £400 for gone over my overdraft limit by a few pounds. Nowadays I check mini-statement nearly everyday or as and when I go near a machine. Last two weeks, on Friday: the23rd of Feb., my mini-statement said I gone overdrawn by £7.60. My weekend was ruin. I had just put in my cheque on Thursday night and the very last week cheque, all in! HOW COMES! Monday am. I pick up my mail to take with me to work, the letter from Natwest said, they are going to charge me further for an Unpaid Fee of £38 for each item listed below etc. The letter dated 22/02/07 and today was 26/02/07. Five days multiple by £38… I felt like I got a heart attack. I rush straight in to my local bank to learn that the bank turn my £5 cheque into £500 cheque. The young girl at the counter said apology and had stopped the further charge, also she would refund me the £38 charge in the next 2 -3 working days (appeared to be a week later when I went in to check!). That is quite an easy way out for the bank to get away by apology with their mistakes. My mistake by £1, I have to pay back most of my day work if not all. I feel like I am a slave, working hard to give my £ away. Today: 14 March I have another letter ADVICE OF ACCOUNT CHARGE FOR THE PERIOD 3 FEB. TO 2 MARCH 2007. I seem to spend my time go in a bank to sort out problems than go into my office?
The process that you will follow is relatively easy but IS NOT a get rich quick scheme. Spend time reading the FAQ pages as this will stop you making mistakes along the way, and is the most important part. Read as many threads as your eyes will allow, you will gain invaluable knowledge which will give you the confidence you need. This is a SELF HELP site and won’t do the work involved for you. However, everything you need is on here somewhere.
This site is all about EMPOWERMENT and you will gain the confidence that you will need. The excellent A-Z guide compiled by Michael is a fantastic source of information.
But remember, this isn’t a game. You are taking on large institutions which MAY lead to court, but you do need to be prepared.
Everyone is very friendly and keen to help. Dave and Bankfodder have done a great job in producing the site, and all the moderators, helpers and current users really are a very nice bunch.
Please also understand that any advice that you receive is normally based on experience and expert advice should be sought if needed.
I have put some useful links onto the thread that you can refer to when needed.
