Question Store charges for represented cheque

I issued a cheque to Makro but unfortunately had to be represented due to uncleared funds. However it cleared first time on representation.
They sent me a bill for £48.50 adminicon charge. Is this legal?
I have paid it but can I reclaim?

If and only if it cost them £48.50 to deal with it. Unless of course you were dealing as business rather than consumer, in which case it's probably not a "reasonable price" for the "service" of handling it. (Which reminds me, since when is it a "service" to handle payment that is due to you?)

Yes, this was a business transaction.
I just think this was an absolute liberty for a small mishap.

The statutory basis is I think Supply Of Goods And Services Act, which provides that the price of such a service must be fair and reasonable. Should that fail, the usual case law (cf. library) should do it. Unfair Contract Terms Act might not apply, as there wasn't an explicit term allowing for the fee.
