    Default Will abbey close my account?

    I have a student acount that has suffered horrific charges over the past 3 years. Sometimes as much as 50 punds a time, for exceeding my overdrafticon limit by as little as 2GBP.

    What I would like to know is, if i claim against Abbeyicon, will they close my student account? i have abad credit rating and will struggle to get anotherone elsewhere?

    You can open a basic bank account with Natwesticon (Step Account), or Co-Op (Cashminder). These are available to anyone regardless of credit rating.

    Be aware that Abbeyicon may close your account - but it is by no means certain. A large number of people have received settlements without having their account closed.

    I have opened a Step Account with the Natwesticon. Very easy, no questions asked.

    However you will not get a cheque book or any chance of an overdrafticon facility but as I have discovered since I opened it and moved my salary there, once you have got out of the 'charges' culture, you dont really need an overdraft!

    1st Abbey claim settled 11th August - £5248.79
    2nd Abbey claim started 21st September 2006
    DPA letter posted 22nd September

    Abbeyicon have told me they are cancelling our debit cards because we did not have enough money in the account to pay the £360 charges this month.
    I have already opened a STEP account with Natwesticon so I am in the position now where I am not bothered about what they do.
