Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hope someone can help here!
Both my sister and a work colleague are experiencing the very same thing at the moment.
My sister ordered something from USA via internet, work colleague ordered something via ebay.
Both items have been despatched via United States Postal Service (USPS) and have cleared customs. When they track on the website using given tracking number it is claimed that they have attempted delivery at 5am in the morning. Can't say if this is true for work colleague, but know that it isn't true for my sister because she lives in the middle of nowhere, to the point that she was expecting some sort of message to say that they couldn't find her house (trust me even the police can't find it!!). She also owns a dog who goes absolutely mad whenever any vehicle drives up her lane and if the dog had barked, she would have got up (paranoia which comes from living in the middle of nowhere!!!)
So she is adamant that they didn't try to deliver.
Here comes the weird thing - they have no way of finding out who the USPS is using in this country to deliver the goods - even the sellers don't know...apparently the USPS have partners in this country who they use, but because you have a USPS tracking number fed ex etc can't help!
It was United States Postal Service - problem was that web site was saying that they tried to deliver and they hadn't left a card or anything. But finally speaking to very nice lady in USPS she gave me the Parcelforce number in Bradford, who then informed me that they hadn't attempted to deliver it because there were duty charges on it!
It will be collected tonight as it is in local parcelforce depot...what is worrying though is how long would it have sat in the depot and how would we have been contacted to pay duty and collect? My colleagues parcel has been there for 2 weeks without anyone contacting him!
Anyway...all sorted!
