Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
What is the procedure for debt collection in the UK? I keep receiving calls from a company called RMA. A few months back I received a letter stating that I had 48 hours to pay the full amount owed. I ignored that letter, and after that the calls started. I had a woman on the phone who told me that if I would pay the full amount they would give me a 20% reduction. I told her that I do not have that amount of money, if I did I would have paid it already and not be in this predicament. (Full debt is 3200 pounds from a barclay credit card) I said I can pay 35 pounds and she started pleading with me, you must try to pay more, this is too little. I thought that was a bit odd and very unproffessional.
I do not live in the UK anymore and I am now wondering what these people can actually do. I get several calls a day and they leave messages on my phone to call back urgently. I haven't called them back. But I am wondering what happens if I just ignore this people, what can they do?
They tell me that they will keep putting on charges if I don't pay up.
