Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi to all!!!! This is my first post as I have only recently stumbled across this brill websibe. Here's hoping you are all successful and get back these unlawful charges. I will be really grateful for any help and advice you can give me along the way....
As it stands, I have sent my first letter (using the template from the Money Savings Expert site) requesting statements and including a £10 cheque with the payee named as The Woolwich. I received the standard reply, that they will get back in touch by the 27th March (sent my letter 27th Feb)...they also returned my cheque. I'd be interested to know why they returned it, I wondered if anyone on here knows?
I'm more of rookie than you on here so probably not best placed to offer advice. However, it would seem from reading hundreds of posts that Woolwich and Barclays do not charge for SAR's. I guess the fact that you sent the payment removes the oportunity for them to delay the process by asking for payment.
I'll keep tabs on your progress as I've just started my own.
good luck
Welcome Samidici,
Have a good read through the threads and all will become clear!

Hi all...thanks for your replies...sorry for huge delay, have had a baby recently and my brain is mush!
I received a list of charges from the bank on the 38th day of the 40 they had to reply. Problem is, the list seems innacurate. According to the bank I am only owed £1500 (approx...can't remember the exact amount offhand) for 6 years, but I totalled up last years statements (I only kept last years)...and they come to £600 just for that one year...and I know that each year has been the same. Bottom line is, I feel I'm owed more..
Does anyone know what I can do to obtain actual statements or query this? Is that possible? Many thanks, Sam
Not sure about that one sam though I would say that I thought my charges would come to a couple of thousand but were only £1k for the whole 6 yrs. When I discovered some old bank statements and cross checked them, they did all marry up. I think sometimes we remember so vividly getting those notices through about the £35 admin charges each time, that they can play tricks on us (especially if we went through a bad patch of receiving a few in one go).
I wonder if it would be possible for you to make an appointment to go down to your branch (if you're on good terms with staff) and asking them to check whilst you're there. Or is there anywhere in your drawers (if you pardon the expression) that you may have stuffed a couple of old statements that you could use as quick reference?
I know that when I got the list of charges, it did NOT include the interest I was charged for going O/D due to the charges. It wasn't a lot in my case, but I still added it onto the Schedule.
i think they are in enough trouble as it is, so dont think they would dare lie about what they owe, but u can always do what wlshcakes suggested and pop in and go thru them with the bank, i just had a list of charges and went with that, but if i find out that they did lie ( i dont think they would) then im going to the oft and newspapers lol
Hi to all...have just drafted second letter, requesting my bank charges..I've looked through various threads but can't find a mention of which address to send the letter to, do I send it to the Barclays address or the Woolwich? (although now defunct). Would sincerely appreciate the address is anyone knows it offhand..
Barclays Bank PLC

Remeber to enclose a copy of your Schedule of Charges but at this stage, you need to hide the 8% column as you cannot ask for that unless you get to filing a claim against them.
They will then have 14 days (calendar not working) to respond with a yes or no - standard automated letters they send simply saying they're investigating etc do not constitute a reply to your Preliminary letter.
