Default £400 is it worth it?

ok have gone through my alliance and leicester statements that I have dating back to when I opened the account in 2002. basically we have been charged a lot of times but my partner has always kicked up a fuss and got a lot of the charges either refunded in full or part refunds.

basically the total in charges with them now stands at £407 (a few more statements to check though). Is it worth claiming this amount back especially as A&L are likely to try and close our account.

also my partner and I have very bad credit ratings so where else are we likely to get an account? I assume we won't get a current account with an overdrafticon will we?

A&L will close your account, they have confirmed this in the press.

It is up to you, as to wether or not it is worth it. You could get another account, however with a bad credit rating, probably not with an OD facility.

I read a couple of threads which said Nat West & Co op do basic accounts, so you could get one of those

The Natwesticon do a basic step account which has a solo card with it and if you keep in order is has the option of upgrade, personally i have had no issues with the Natwest, i think i have had one £30 charge but its not the point of the amount but the fact that its £400 of YOUR money and if customers sit back and take it the law will never be adjusted. In the end tho i guess it comes down to whats best for you. If you do a google search for accounts with bad credit history there were quite a few options for new accounts.

What baffles me is if the A+L close every account that claims against them, they are going to have no customers left... they will give up soon surely!

If you're unsure, chaplinsbabe, why not wait a while to give yourself time to think things over carefully?

Taking a bank to court (which is basically what you are thinking of doing) is not a stroll in the park, and shouldn't be undertaken lightly. Read round the threads on here for a few days and get a feel for what to expect, both in procedure you'll have to follow, and the emotional difficulties you may encounter.

Please don't think I'm trying to put you off, it is your decision - no-one elses.

If you decide to go ahead, we will back you all the way and help and encourage whenever you need it, just give us a shout. Stick to this thread now you've started it, it makes things easier if you only use the one.
