Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Would very much appreciate any comment / advice on the following:
I received a postcard from a debt collection company a couple of months back addressed to my home but not to any specific addressee (ie "The Occupier"). The postcard said nothing more that to make contact with them and quote a reference number. I was suspicious of this so didn't bother.
More recently I've received a similar postcard from "Rapid Forwarding UK" again with no specific addressee, requesting I contact them and quote a reference to make arrangements for "an item to be forwarded to me". I googled their address and it looks like it's from the debt collection company 1st locate.
This all seems suspicious to me and I'm quite sure I don't have any debt.
Any ideas on what this could be and what, if anything, to do about it ??
Ignore it... they are trying to prove you live at that address and as soon as you make contact and query the postcard, they will know for sure. I had 2 of these several years ago... and knew exactly what they were about.
If you were expecting a parcel, then you would have paid for something and would know you were expecting a parcel. If a secret admirer loves you enough to send you a parcel, they will eventually let you know....
If neither of these scenarios apply, then bin the postcards... or file them away, if you prefer.

Thanks for responses. I agree with the advice and will be ignoring the postcards. Do you think they'll just give up if they don't get a response or are there other commonly used tactics I can expect them to employ ?
I guess it induces a certain amount of worry, paranoia and curiosity to think that a debt collecting firm might actively be trying to establish my whereabouts you'd think that if they're looking for me then they'd address something specifically to me ?

Mine gave up... but I have read of other tactics on here. The reason that they haven't sent anything addressed to you is because they are not sure that you are you..... yet !!
