Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hello,,,,,,can anybody advise me? My son has recently (well couple of months ago actually) been diagnosed with severe depression, its so bad he has lost his job because he initially didn't realise what was wrong (neither did I),,,,thought he had just lost all interest in everything and was just sleeping,,,,,well to cut a long story short,,,,I am trying to sort out his matters for him, i.e. all the unopened letters he has,,,,,,I've found letters to say he had booked and paid a £100 deposit on a holiday for him and friend to travel mid May and he has not responded to further letters from them asking for a balance for holiday and insurance. Obviously he is too unwell now or in the foreseeable future to go anywhere, so I went to Thomson travel and spoke to a very disinterested and bad mannered young woman who stated he will not be able tohave his deposit back and they will be chasing him for a further £181. I tried to explain that he was unwell and so has not got the option to travel even if he wanted to,,,,,,she then went on to slurp her coffee, constantly sniffing and eventually 'cuffing' her nose with the back of her hand, and just kept repeating that they would be chasing my son for the rest of the account...... god I don't know where they get these people from.....I left the shop purely because I was so angry and frustrated,,,,,there was no manager there and the young woman I was dealing with refused point blank to put in writing her refusal to refund anything........can anybody please advise me ............plzzzzzzz I'm chasing around trying to sort out tax, banks, mobiles.........any advice would be greatly appreciated.
going through the same problem myself with this dredfull illness with my husband who has been taken to hospital, and left me with all the problems. Just hang on in there and keep on fighting
Also has he paid for the friend, and if he does cancel he should get a pro rata charge not the full amount.
What are they actually chasing- balance of deposit ot full payment?
Well, it seems he has no insurance (that is included in the outstanding £180.00 balance) and this is what they will be chasing she said,,,,,also, the £100 deposit was for him and his friend, so no insurance for either....I've just remembered she also said,,,"well why didn't his partner who he booked on the holiday come in and pay the balance"........ that's when I thought I was going to explode,,,,,
Lenny, this illness is awful, can empathise with you and thankyou Gizmo for taking an interest,,,,,,,hope somebody can help as I feel like I'm at the end of my tether and feel that the lack of common curtousy, let alone compassion is something Thompson's obviously don't train their staff in.......!
Sorry Gizmo,,,,,missed that last bit........no, not the full balance of the holiday just £180 balance of deposit, believe which would have been included in the £180, although by that point I'd glazed over and not sure where the insurance would have fitted in,,,,,? Could be that it was an additional option.
Is it the case that he got 'free' insurance but that he had to pay for the insurance in the event that he had to cancel?
Offering every sympathy to your son, it does appear that he's signed up to this so Thomson are now chasing payment. I guess it would be put against the shop or the staff member as a 'bad loss' so that's why they're not applying any discretion.
BUt, if he now did pay the money and the insurance premium, then surely he could then claim against that insurance as his cancellation would be an insurable reason? Assuming that it wasn't a pre-exisitng condition.
And...knowing nothing at all about medicine or this problem...would it be an option for him to go on the holiday? Would that not be 'therapy' in itself?
hi
we are experiencing a similar problem with thomson.
we booked a ski holiday and cancelled it due to redundancy/seperation over the phone which they claim they never had the cancellation and now want us to pay the balance of £900 remaining?!!! which needless to say we dont have.
They havnt been helpfull at all and now we dont know whether to expect bailiffs at the door...
hi there,
i have the same problem with Olympic holidays at the mo, can some1 help??
i booked a surprise holiday for my partner and his friend with his friend knowing, i rung up an booked over the phone with my partner being the lead passenger.
6 weeks prior to him going he lost his job. called olypmic explained and they said we would be liable for the £100 deposit which was fine
now ever since then we are recieving emails, letters & calls saying we have to pay the full balance or go to court and my partner will get a CCJ?????????
it very annoying and stressing because no contracts were signed by my partner and they are being very rude..
