Thread: A&L Just telephoned me with an offer

A polite young lady from the A&L just telephoned me

"I am telephoning with reference to a letter that you have written to us"
"Oh yes" says I
"Yes we have charged you in accordance blah blah blah"
"Oh yes" says I
"However we are prepared to make you an offer of £1500.00"
"No Thank you very much" says I
"How much would you be prepared to accept"
"£4155.22 at todays date"
"Your court claim is for £4149.49"
"correct at the time, however interest is being added daily at 0.021%, and that is how much I will settle for the whole amount, as I am quite willing to go to court and defend my position" says I
"Well thank you, we will write to you"
"Thank you for your call it has been a pleasure, I look forward to your letter" says I

Oh how much fun, how nice to be speaking knowing my rights, thanks to this website. I feel empowered I am a lion watch me roar

Is the claim for charges or redemption fees

Charges on my old current account

They have just telephoned my again and offered

£3637.40 which is something to do with fos ruling on interest etc. and the Court Fees.

Part of me feels like saying ok, however they didn't do me any favours whatsoever when I had the account.

I should hold out for the whole amount - cos I promised myself I would. £3 and a half K though is alot of dosh

argggggggg wot now.

The account was in my husband and my name. I said they had offered us £3637.40 he said that's not bad and that we could have it in our account etc. So he phoned the number and it went a little like this

"I understand that you have offered us £3637.40 and said that the shortfall is to do with the FO detailing of interest etc"
"Yes, that is right" (not in a very polite tone)
"It is not the Ombudsman that makes a decision on the interest, it is the judge"
"Yes well we have noticed now that you have raised a court claim" (still tone not improving) Also strange, that when she made the offer I said I wasn't prepared to swallow the court costs and she added them to the amount!!
"therefore we do not accept your offer"
"We won't be offering you that anyway, we will defend our case in Court"
"and we look forward to receiving your cheque in full!"

So I nearly had the money for nearly 10 mins - I wonder when they will send my cheque now? Will they make me wait or get it out, as they can see that the lady is not for turning.

The funny thing is, im in doors was of half a mind to barter, and offer to meet them half way ie, whack another £300.00 on and we will accept. It was only because she was so snotty that he said no.

I am pleased, cos I want the full amount So watch this space

Yeah I agree. I will sit tight and wait for my cheque

They refused to pay out £450 for one of our clients, started court action and they paid £950 the next week. This included contractual interest.

Good luck with this Chain Chick - I have just had my 2nd reply from A&L - the usual 'it's all fair' pants!
SO I am now waiting for my 14 days to file my claim
I was a little amused to see that they have special letters set up on their system that they are now sending out - so they aren't even responding personally! My letter reference ends UNFAIR4! lol nice to see that they have had to do some extra work setting up different responce letters! ROll on my MCOL date

I will let you all know when the cheque drops on my door mat.

They should have realised I was a CAG member, as I have followed the steps 1 2 & 3 (To heaven) (Sorry 70's child)
