Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
You bought the car in November 2000 and kept up the payments for a year and then stopped. I understand it is the date from when you first defaulted that is of more relevance here, rather than the date when you first took out the loan. That means it is well within the 6 year period.
At the time that you stopped paying, did you contact the loan company, or did they contact you? Have you changed address since you took out the loan? It does seem unusual that the only contact you have had from them was a couple of letters last year.
I telephoned them in 2002 asking for a settlement figure and they told me I had to write to get one which I did do. I never received the settlement figure and I then moved house and never heard anything until those couple of letters last year.
