Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I recently used my internet banking to make a payment to my credit card, however, stupidly I selected the wrong payee without realising and sent £100 to a Debenhams account that I haven't used for years and has no balance on it. Doohh!!
I only realised several weeks later and when I received my credit card statement which did not show the payment.
I then contacted Debenhams (GE Money) and got their overseas call centre who couldn't help me at all as the account was no longer active and said I should write to them and I would hear something within 21 days.
Surely they should have my money floating around somewhere???
Re: Help, please re erroneous credit card payment!!!
I'm sure someone on here with more experience than me will come along and offer better info but from what i remember (used to work on our finance dept a few years ago), when the money goes back into an in-active or closed account and cant be cleared, it ends up in a suspense account until it can be assigned to the correct account. A suspense account is basically the company's own personal bank account.
As i said, I'm sure one of the finance experts on here will come along and correct me, but for now it might be worth ringing debenhams back and asking them about whether this is possible.
a sort of fire-fighting role here. Hate HFC & their past compulsory PPI ethos
