Thread: hsbc acount closed 2 yrs ago - can i still claim refund?

hi
i wonder if anyone would know if i can successfully claim for wrongful bank charges incurred up to 6 years ago despite my account having been closed 2 years ago?

i am worried that if i send the standard template asking for a list of charges or copy statements (with my old bank account number as a reference) they might just throw the letter in the bin as the account no longer exists.

Any thoughts?

Yes you can claim back these charges. If you send them the Data Protection Act S.A.R - (Subject access request) letter from the template library they will not throw it in the bin.

I cannot speak for HSBC but I can tell you that I have obtained data from both Halifax and Nat West that goes back to 1992.
