Can we treat Catalogue / Mail order charges the same as bank charges?
Hi everyone,
I've got an interesting question to put to you all. Can catalogue / mail order charges be reclaimed the same as bank charges & Credit card charges? As they are also regulated by the Financial Services Ombudsmen.
I had a lot of financial problems a few years ago & had numerous catalogue accounts which defaulted as i couldn't keep up with all the charges they kept adding, late payment fees etc.
Would be good to know if i can reclaim those charges & get the defaults removed too. I'd be owed a fortune! (i wish!)

if their charges exceed their costs you can reclaim them.

By the way i have reclaimed charges from a loan account i had they were £10 per letter and they repaid.

Hi, I have noticed that the dates are long expired to this question, but the question is the same! I have been a loyal, active customer with Additions catalogue for many years & seen it passed through several companies. I have never defaulted on my payments, despite their levels of interest & their minimum payments being erratic at the best of times. Their on-line statements do not show the date (to my knowledge) each amount should be paid by. I have just received a bill claiming that I am late in paying by 6 days, my last payment was on the 4th July & they didn't receive Augusts payment until the 6th August! I have been charged £12 & my interest has increased. My minimum payment has also increased on a £200 debt, from £10 per month to £20! Are they allowed to do this? I telephoned & was told they would not levy the charges. They also said that I knew their terms when I registered an account with them. Yes, at the time I did, but due to the changes in management their terms & conditions, as well as interest charges have changed a number of times. I was never given the opportunity to agree/disagree with any of their new terms or to pay off my account before these changes were made. I was told also that payments are to be made every 28 days... So eventually it is inevitable if you are not aware of this that you will end up defaulting on a payment. They said in order to make my payment in August on time I would have had to make 2 payments in July! In the end I paid the outstanding amount in full so they can't claim any more interest from me! Question is, can I claim back any charges?
