    Default Telewest/Ntl/Born again Virgin

The soon to be Virgin Media.

They are ever so thoughtfully sending out the new T&Cs and intro to existing customers.

Tucked away in the very small print crammed leaflet is this little nugget:

    4 Bills

    b) You may choose to pay your bills by cash, cheque, credit or debit card, or by direct debiticon.

    c) Virgin Media Payments will provide you with payment handling services and unless you pay by Direct Debit you agree that Virgin Media Payments shall charge you a separate payment handling charge each month for processing your payment.
    Hmmm... Sneaky...

Surely existing customers would be able to refuse these new terms?

Er, and since when did it become accepted practice to make customers pay businesses when the businesses incur a business expense? I.e., processing payments? Pfff.

So far I'm pleased with the changes. Rang up today to check that I was no longer getting itemised billing as its now £1 and they upgraded my TV package to TV size L as the new 3 for £30 offer includes that package rather than starter TV

I shall be putting it to them in writing that I will accept their charge for payment of the bill, on the sole condition that they pay the bill instead of me Failing that, I shall return my copy (once it arrives) with that paragraph struck out, informing them that "their request to vary the terms has been approved in part".

If they question this, I shall say "No, your bank's payment processing services will do just fine, thanks."
