Default Interesting statement by the banking association re bank charges

BBA - British Bankers' Association - Banks welcome opportunity for fact-finding exercise with the OFT

They do place alot of emphasis on the fact that customers receive Free Bankingicon, which is hardly a defence considerring they are breaking contract law.

A representative for the Banking Association has been on the news this morning trying to debunk the recent Which report.

Banking and credit | The ASBO campaign | Bank charges

The person stated that the piece by Which was deliberately sensationalising the issue, and that the fee's were surprise surprise for a service which customers were informed of in advance.

An applicable analergy would be that Turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

For the Banking Association to admit their members have been unlawfully charging people would leave the banks with a big creditability problem... the publicity would open the floodgates for people reclaiming, and no doubt hit profits.

If it was the inestimable Ms Joanna Elson making these comments, you may well wish to email her for further details:

    joanna.elson@bba.org.uk

I seem to remember emailing about a dozen members of BBA shortly after the OFT statement of April 5 2006 - standard responses, but they know we are out here, waiting, waiting for the flood...
