Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
what is the government legislation that stops you having to pay intrest on debts, thats always being advertised on the telly and in newspapers, anyone know?

yes it's an IVA - basically a voluntary arrangement you enter into with your debtors. It's kind of one step down from bankruptcy, and you can do it yourself, you don't have to pay one of these agencies. But LOTS of pitfalls, and not suitable for many. You might get more replies if you correct your spelling from "dept to "debt" from people who know more about it than I do.

Re: Government Legislation on depts
Unfortunately Ladybird, you can't change titles of threads after you've posted them - I've made a few boobs myself from time to time...
IVAs are not guaranteed to stop interest and charges, they only work if the absolute majority of your creditors agree to play nice with your IVA company. Be very aware that not all of these IVA companies have your best interests at heart; there have been some reports on here of IVA companies taking the majority of your debt payments in 'admin fees' before your creditors see any of it.
For more detailed advice, I'd suggest you post in the General Debt forum, Pen - it's just underneath the Consumer Advice forum on the main forum page, in case you didn't know where it had ben moved to.
Hi guy's, thanks for the info. Ladybird, did try to correct spelling error using edit but as Demon states it can't be done if it can I can't do it but once you read the thread you will see it's spelt correctly but whats a spelling mistake between friends?
thanks for the information regarding IVAs, still not quite sure what it stands for except the VA bit. It was just that I have seen so many CAs advertising it I wondered what the legislation was. Do you have to have an agreement with all of a persons debtors for the interest to be stopped or can you just have a agreement with one of them. i will do as you suggest Demon and check out the General debt forum. I will also click on your scales if I knew where to find them. Tell me where they are and I will click away.
Thanks

Hi Pen - the scales are on the left hand side at the bottom of each post. Just do your research very carefully - IVA's can be a great solution for some people, but not for others. The agreement is made with everyone you owe money to - and there is no obligation for them to agree - making it "voluntary". Keep us posted
