Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I am so stressed with the bank Yorkshire Bank. I do not know were to turn with it.
Ok to make this short, some money did not go into my account we was relying on which caused 3 direct debits to bounce today. So today we went into bank to close the account and explained that we have been charged 90 pounds and we wanted to shut the account because tomorrow 3 cheques will bounce and it will go up by 8 pound a day untill clear. Also next week cheques may bounce and Direct debits will bounce. On Saturday (in 2 days) our family tax credit will go in which we need to live on but will be swallowed up by this darn account. We just want to shut the account but the bank refuse too. Unreal. Phoned head office and they said only the bank could decide but they should of froze the account. The bank wont do anything to close it or freeze it untill it is clear but it goes up everyday. Any help would be appreciated. Tthis is really getting to me.

You could try cancelling the direct debits and then reinstating them when you are in a better financial position.
I put a hold on one of my direct debits and asked my ex bank (The Nationwide) not to honor payments to it until i told them otherwise, and they complied without hassle.
Maybe Yorkshire could do something similar.
As for the cheques, have you thought about going into the bank and cancelling them, this will stop another batch of £30 fees etc being slammed onto your account but there may be a fee of about £10 for this.
But don't get worked up over the charges at the end of the day they are unlawful and you will get them back by following the guides on the bank section.
There is also a letter you can draft and give to your branch manager called right of appropriation, i believe though you have give them 7 days notice to do this, but i suppose there is no harm in trying. This can be found in the Bank templates library section of the site.
I'm sure someone more experienced will be along in aminute though with better words of wisdom than i, so keep an eye on this thread tonight

Thanks heaps for the advise. I know about claiming the charges back, this is not what is worrying me at this time my tax credits are going to be swallowed up by charges and leave us with nothing all week untill my tax credits hit my new account. Can somone please check this letter. Any advise appreciated.
Dear Manager,
After my visit to your bank today and discussions with your staff I am disgusted that you refused to close my account or freeze the account on explanation of causing severe hardship in keeping the account open.
My account has incurred charges and will continue to do so until it is closed or froze at an estimated rate of £150 per week. I acted immediately to this and entered into the branch on the first day of charges before the account went into a state on none repair and asked for help in requesting it be froze or closed.
After I was refused any help of any kind I phoned the call centre for your bank and was advised by a supervisor their the service I received was a disgrace but they could do nothing as it is up to you the branch to deal with.
A copy of this letter will be going to Head Office and may later be used in any legal proceedings that incur from this situation.
I ask again to close my account and any monies owed at close of business 25/01/2007 will be paid as soon as possible. I will not be held responsible for any charges incurred after this requested date. If this cannot be done until payment is made please freeze my account until payment is made also incurring no further charges from 25/01/2007.
I wish to inform you that I am due to have a Tax Credit payment of £170 paid into my account on 29/01/2007, and I wish to use my first right of appropriation for this money, for the following purposes;
Rent £70
Utilities bills £30
Housekeeping money £70
I will withdraw the money on the day that it is deposited for the above use, and I would be grateful if you would ensure that any other payments or charges out of my account do not interfere with this withdrawal.
Yours faithfully,
