Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I had a Barclaycard when I just turned 18. I wasn't good with money, and missed a lot of payments. In the end, I just stopped paying it, put my head in the sand and the initial £1000 balance (£1000 limit) went to about £1200 due to charges and I finally defaulted in October 2001 (according to my credit file).
I understand time is running out for my claim. I am still paying off the Barclaycard balance and have around £300 left now, I now pay the debt to Thames Credit.
Some questions:
1) Has anyone had defaults successfully removed from their credit file, especially from this long ago.
2) Do I stand a chance of actually getting my statements from this time, bearing in mind some of the charges that caused me to default would be prior to the 6 year limit.
3) Thames Credit own the debt now, do I contact them or do I contact Barclaycard?
I am not as worried about the charges as I am the default - I am trying to get a mortgage and its looking like I may struggle to get a decent deal (if I can get one at all) with the default hanging over my head, but of course refund of the charges would be good too!
Any advice would be appreciated, I'm in the process of preparing my DPA letter.

Have a look at successes forum and search (in that forum only) for the word default. If there are any, they will be in there.

Barclaycard have been really barstewards to get information from - even from statements within the 6 years. Tanzarelli's thread is an example of how awkward they have been. Think you may struggle here.

TC have the debt but it is a Barclaycard, so Barclaycard will still have your statements, they just sell the debt on.

If I remember rightly, defaults only last 6 years, so this will drop off Oct 2007. Something to bear in mind (though doesn't help you now).
I'm sure there will be plenty of other help round the corner.....pretty helpful bunch in here!
