Was bought tickets with Ryan Air so completely unaware of their
baggage allowance. We turned up to Stansted with 2 pieces of luggage weighing 48kilos combined to be told I was only allowed 15kilos per person otherwise we get charged.
I was totally unprepared for this extra charge £71.00 in total on outbound flight and £55 on the return.
Our flight coupon states we were entitled to 20kilos each.
Is there anything I can do about reclaiming said charges.

The Checked Baggage allowance is 20kg per person (there is no baggage allowance for infants, although a pram/buggy will be carried free of charge). Each Passenger may check-in up to five items of checked baggage, up to 20kg per person (a Baggage Fee is charged for each item of checked baggage).
Passengers may not use the unused checked baggage allowance of other passengers. No pooling/sharing of the checked baggage allowance is permitted, even within a party travelling on the same Confirmation Number.
One item of hand baggage per person, weighing no more than 10kg and with dimensions of less than 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, may be carried into the aircraft cabin.
Any passenger checking in baggage exceeding their 20kg (per person) allowance will be charged an excess baggage fee currently at a rate of £5.50/€8 per kilo (or local currency equivalent).
For health and safety reasons Ryanair does not accept for carriage any individual item exceeding 32 kilos or with combined dimensions of more than 81cms (height), 119cms (width) and 119cms (depth).
DO NOT enclose the original receipt for the baggage charge, just a photocopy (as per their own guidelines.)
As per their won rules you shouldonly charged for the excess ie. 8 kilos.

I heard not long ago that they had lowered the allowance from 20kgs to 15 kgs, so they obviously haven't changed their terms over the whole site...
Any other company, I'd say: go and make some noise. With Ryanair, I'd say: don't bother, they really do not give a flying f*ck about their passengers or keeping their custom. By all means, complain, but I'd be very surprised if you got anywhere. Ryanir never accept they're in the wrong, never apologise. They make their money from getting people on "cheap" flights (not so cheap after taxes) at airports miles away from your actual destination, and by penalising you any single chance they can, closing check-in early, excess luggage, double-charging on their shuttle service.

I absolutely 100% agree with BW on this. Their attitude is "if you paid f*** all for your flight, what do you expect"
I would NEVER fly with Ryan Air, even if it were my only option, I'd rather stay at home. They are notiorious throughout the aviation industry.
I had issues with Ryanir too - their flight was late in from Pisa to Liverpool and we had to sit 25 mins on the tarmac whilst they found some steps which made us miss our transport and pay £50 for a taxi home.....
This 'steps issue' was lie as a despatcher got on and off the plane ok (or he must be David Blane...) and I realised the actual issue when I got to baggage reclaim and saw 10 Customs officers all over the baggage from my flight.
After asking Ryanair to explain what happened, I got the usual flim-flam back.
I work operationally at Manchester airport and so I now take great pleasure in advising passengers to travel with anyone else but them!!
Revenge can come in small amounts....a little bit every day with each passenger....
I used Ryanair in the New Year to go to Germany (Baden-Baden before the English invaded! ) with my two young daughters and the trip over was fine. We got to board the plane before anyone else.
However on the way back people with small kids were asked to board first, which wasnt a problem BUT it was the bus to the plane we were asked to board first...by the time everyone else was on the bus myself and my two girls were right down to back so in effect we were last on to the plane!
But not all was lost as people soon moved when confronted by two screaming children
But lets be honest here...how hard would it be to introduce allocated seating? Not bloody hard at all I reckon!

They're a bit of a joke alrite... 30 euros for baggage and airport check in as well as a 10 euro handling fee... im makin the feckin booking online why the feck do they need a handling fee.
it actually put me off booking with them and I'm just going to wait to easyjet flights from belfast to my destination go on sale.
Hi booked to travel with Ryanair 24/06 booked accomodation separately with Thomsons. Ryanair emailed me to say they were RESCHEDULING our flight for 26/06 2 days later which means we will lose 2 days of our holiday. They have offered us a full refund for the flight but it will cost us £246 to fly with Globespan who are the only other low cost airline flying from Glasgow on this date. To amend our Thomson booking it will cost us £140 in admin charges. Anyone encountered this before or can give me some advice.
I fly with Ryanair often and have found the card fees extremely high and a little insulting to put it mildly, it is £4.50 per flight per person, this would mean a return flight for two would cost you £18.00 just to use your card!

Ryanair - how does baggage work with online check-in??
A quick question. I have booked a flight with Ryanair and selected online check-in. I understand that I've got to check-in online between 15 days and 4 hours before I fly. I've also paid to put a bag of up to 15kg in the hold. I plan to go ahead and check-in via the web, assuming their website lets me.
My question is - how do I actually give in the bag when I arrive at the airport? It's not going to be any heavier than what I have paid for. When I get to the airport and hand it in, will they try to say I'm doing an "airport check-in" rather than an "online check-in", and demand more money?
I should add: the airport I'll be travelling from is Kerry.
I just wanted to share with you my last bad experience with Ryanair: I was going on holidays, it was the 15th August and my flight from Dublin to London (Flight FR 202 Depart DUB at 06:30 and arrive STN at 07:45) was delayed of 30 minutes due to an error of their new online check in system. The system attributed the same boarding number to two different passengers which created panic within the cabin crew: it took 30 minutes to do the headcount and verify every single boarding card.
Once the problem was solved, the plane finally took off from Dublin arriving at Stansted airport 30 minutes after scheduled time.
At Stansted airport I encountered another problem: the access door to the terminal building was closed and it took more than 10 minutes for the keyholder to come and open it.
I ran through the airport hall and the security check and, once I arrived at the gate (D43) I was refused boarding (on EVERY screen of the airport Flight FR 982 was highlighted as "FINAL CALL" - meaning I STILL CAN board on the plane). The guy at the gate was very unpolite (I unfortunately could not get his name: he refused to show me his tag) and told me to go back to the desk at the gates entrance and ask for advice.
I finally returned back to the main Ryanair desk and I had to pay extra 100 £ (from my VISA because, at Stansted Airport, EURO notes are NOT accepted by Ryanair!) and buy another ticket from there to Ancona.
Today I read on "Il Centro" that yesterday's Ryanair flight from Pescara to Bergamo was called back from taking off since a passenger had been waiting at the wrong gate and could not board on the plane.
Now, I find this completely appalling: I arrived at the gate on a "Final Call" and I was refused to be boarded on that plane that still had the doors opened and the stairs out while that passenger who has been waiting at the wrong gate received a completely different treatment.
I will send a registered letter to Ryanair's head office at Dublin Airport, including a copy of today's paper, to report and complain about this ridiculous behaviour: I would like not to fly with them anymore but, unfortunately, they still hold a predominant position in the airlines market. Their planes are dirty and uncomfortable, cabin crews are rude, unpolite, shameless, irritating, appalling and their service is the worst among all the companies I've been flying with: they claim to be the "On time company" and the "Low Fares Company". This is not true: most of their flights have delays and their fares are not-so cheap: moreover the introduction of a 5 euro fee for online check in is a "legalized" rip-off.
I want to spread the word around and let more people know about this and I wish them to lose all their customers!
Why not try a chargeback as you used a Visa credit card.

A year ago I also had some problems with Ryan Air and my baggage. I had 22kg and they told me this is too much and I also was not prepared to pay the fee.
I never had such problems with another Airline. I don't know why Ryan Air is so strict regarding the baggage.
With regard to Ryan air and what you get is what you pay for, the fact that Ryan air is cheap is in my estimation a myth. There are now charges for everything now as " extras " except scatching your head (they are considering this) and hand luggage, I am a frequent flier from Ancona to Stanstead and on one occasion couldn't book. The alternative much to my surprise was Alitalia airline which worked out cheaper and the luggage allowance aboard was more than the 15Kgs. In the interests of fairness mind I have on a couple of occasions taken advantage of their penny each way offers which now seem a distant memory...
Ryanair's attitude to customer service absolutely stinks, and to make it worse, they're fully aware of how bad it is but rather than apologise and strive to do better, they just couldn't care less.
I think you must have to pass some kind of arrogance/rudeness test to be able to work for Ryanair because the attitude of every Ryanair staff member I've ever met, from check-in staff to stewardess, has been an absolute disgrace.
I have travelled with them in the past but I now find it's cheaper and more pleasant flying with BA or Easyjet who at least are polite to their customers and do not charge rip-off non-existent admin charges.
