    Default Passenger fuel duty

I've just been reading on the BBC news site that passengers are being asked to pay the increase in duty even if they booked their tickets months ago. This seem to be a little unfair, asking for more money even after you have paid. Anyone not paying the extra tax will not be allowed to fly. Is it not the case that you have entered in to a contract and they can't force you to pay more?

Depends on your terms and conditionsicon of carriage, quite a few airlines have clauses that allow them to pass on the cost of any increase in government taxes to you following your purchase. It may seem unfair but the present government wants to hurt the ordinary person in the pocket to punish them for flying so much (whilst spending the additional revenue on increases in pensions for MPs).

The actual mechanics of charging the increase are slightly dubious as it appears some are charging the card number they have on file (having given notice of doing so).

It's not Fuel Duty, but a Passenger Departure Tax - clearly the tax applies on a certain date, so if the passenger DIDN'T pay it, then if the airline requests it to be paid, there is no discretion, you pay it or you don't fly. Your complaint is with the Government, and I certainly have no plans to vote for them, I suggest you do the same.

Another blxxxdy green tax, Bet it doesn't get spent on anything to do with greening the planet.

I love how our trusted politicians introduced it. Bunch of shysters. Hope that is allowed otherwise I am going to find it edited.
