Default gordon browns new fligh taxes

Gordon brown has brought in a new tax on some airlines. It is due to start in February 2007
I booked a flighticon with easy jet a few months ago everything paid for and now they are telling me that I have to pay an extra 25.00 pounds. Are they allowed to do this the tickets were bought and paid in full ages ago. surely if I bought the tickets months ago they shouldn't be allowed to add extra costs. The transaction has gone through. Can anyone give me any advice please thanks

Yes, airlines are within their rights to pass governement tax increases on to their customers, unfair as it is. Some airlines are passing these charges onto the customers, others are not.

Only tour operators do not have the right to unless the increase is more than 2% of the holidayicon, and then they can only charge the amount over and above the 2%.

I was asked by Easyjet to pay an extra £10 only, now there are 2 of us travelling in February. The email did not make it clear whether it was £5 each or £10 each.
Then two receipts were received from them by email one showing just £10 and the other showing 2 lots of £10 payments, so I have tried and tried phoning them and have been holding for over 30 minutes then I gave up. Fortunately, I phoned them on the 01582..... instead of the 0871.....as on our onetel bill, as long as I dont hold on for more than 60 minutes it is a free call. But nethertheless they should make it very clear if the charge is per person or in total. I suspect they have duplicated the payment but cannot be sure. Will try phoning them tomorrow, if I cannot get hold of them I will ring the credit card company and get them to retrieve the extra £10 they have taken from me. If anyone else has experience of this
I would love to hear from you.

No not yet, they keep you waiting forever and ever. It just seems impossible to find a human at the other end.

Just to let you know that after searching their website I did eventually find an email address to write to, they replied today full of apologies and are refunding £10. but they advise it will take a further 10-15 days to make the refund.
