Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Yesterday (Mon) I rang the Consumer Council's Office in Belfast for advice but no one rang me back until today.
Meanwhile I sent the letter to the Northern Bank asking for a refund of penalty charges (near to £800).
However the Consumer Council Office rang me today and said that she very much doubted that I could claim the charges back because the Consumer Unfair terms "thingy" applies only to PERSONNAL accounts!
We are a farm business but not a Limited company.
I am claiming back the usual referral charges, warning letter, unpaid cheques AND the quarterly MAINTENANCE FEES.
According to the lady of the Consumer Council Office the maintenance fee may not be a penalty charge as every institution is different!
I feel as if I have just wasted my time sending the letter to the Northern Bank.
I would greatly appreciate any advice
Kind regards
It would perhaps be more useful to others if someone would be so kind as to put down here ALL the types of penalty charges for both BUSINESS and PERSONNAL account holders with the Northern Bank.
