I was born a fighter so watchout Halifax and Nat West
I saw a programme on morning tv with the money savings guy on and that started me off. I then watched and recorded the BBC 2 programme about these bank charges. The more I watched the more I got angry. Halifax took nearly all my wages last Nov, Dec. I had nothing no food in the fridge and with other problems in my life at the time was close to a nervous breakdown. When I called the Halifax to confront them, I was crying uncontrolably, all they did was extend my overdraft and now that I know they were getting wind of all of this at the time I am disgusted with them.
I before Christmas telephoned the Halifax, who obvously knew why I was asking for backdated statements, were very good and polite and advised me I only had to pay £5 for these statements not £10 as I thought. I then called Nat West who I had been with for most of my adult life, but closed the account because of charges and the way they treated me, They were very good and also said I only had to pay £5 for statements.
I recieved all my statements from Halifax a week ago and went through them and to my surprise it came to 3013 pounds. I only thought it was around 1000. I sent the letter and copy of dates of charges and amounts on Monday 1st of Jan. They recieved it Tuesday and I had a reply today 4th of Jan. It had a letter pointing out the terms and conditions (they sent me a letter a week ago telling me they have changed their terms and conditions, not that I understand it anyway, with a copy of them too. Also a card with a number for my complaint. Nothing else was said. So I e-mailed them pointing out that I am claiming for charges incurred before they changed their terms and conditions. I was e-mailed asking for my telephone no. Which I did send and the girl explained that as there was no manager available she had to send it to head office to be dealt with and she also forwarded my e-mails to them. So I am now just waiting to see. I have told them I have not put any interest on the amount but if this goes to court I will ask the court to add it on.
Nat West have not called me yet to get the statements. I know that their amount of charges is going to be greater than Halifax and cant wait to find out what they will have to give me back.

Hi Lesley
The charges are unlawful before and after the changes to their terms and conditions, so you can ask for them back. Once you have your statements, go through them thoroughly and add it all up. This applies to any credit cards you have also. Halifax are easier to deal with compared to Lloyds.
