Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi
I have just finished typing my first letter to be sent to Anthony Turbitt, Customer Services (Banking) by recorded mail. Unsure whether to also email a copy to complaints@abbey.com. Wondered if anybody had been successful if they could confirm the person/dept and address which worked for them. Luckily I have kept all my statements as I have been self employed since leaving Abbey on maternity leave nearly 10years ago. I couldn't wait to leave and will be delighted if I am sucessful in claiming back unfair interest and charges totalling nearly £300. Of which £30 was for a direct debit totalling £0.02.!!!!!
We'll keep our eyes on this, just post updates as they happen. There is no onus on you to email it too, so the standard letter will suffice.
Best of luck to you
John

Just received a reply from Jackie Hammond at Banking Servicing at Abbey advising that they have done a review and feel that their charges are correct and not disproportionate and that "If the complaint escalates into a claim in the county court, we'll review eash case individually and if we feel that our relationship with our customer has broken down completely, we may decide to give notice to close the account under the terms and conditions". I am looking to claim back charges of just under £300 and am unsure whether it is worth continuing and possibly having all the hassle of changing accounts etc.
This is a very standard letter, exactly the same as ones received by loads of other people on the forum (me included). I'm not aware of anyone having had their account closed, and it's by no means certain that they can do it for this reason anyway. If it were me, I would continue on with legal action.
